An orientation narrative - what is this session and why have we included it?

In this time of transition, the ambition is centred on shifting entire systems. That involves an investment approach that is quite different to conventional models, which are centred on how to generate the best financial yields from specific investments over relatively short timescales. Instead we need to find approaches to investment that are longer-term, collaborative, and grounded in an accountability to human and planetary thriving.

We think that more work is needed to understand how different kinds of assets, capital and investment may be put in service of the transformational work we explore elsewhere in this conference. We want to raise our horizons beyond simply considering Foundation assets, to ask how we might reorient other investment activity towards backing alternative systems, and playing their part in speeding up the transition to a more equitable, regenerative future.

How might we bring together work like this with efforts in the field of philanthropy? What can we do to deepen collaborations? In this panel we will explore leading edge practice in this field, as well as asking - what would it take to go further? What more is needed? Who else needs to be in this conversation?
